A Heartfelt Memorial for Tristan William Sawatski

Memorial pieces are always near and dear to my heart. So when I was asked to create one for a very special lil boy that had passed I was all in.

Receiving a few photos of Tristan along with his story and photos of his family and logo my brain got to work dreaming up anything and everything I could to do Tristan and his family justice with his memorial piece.

I knew I wanted his photo large and in charge as the main element of the piece. I quickly set to work in photoshop prepping the image I wanted to use for laser burning. Then bringing it into Illustrator to create a border. Each step was meticulously thought out and prepped to make it cut perfect on the laser and cut like butter through the wood and etch his likeness perfectly.

In my creative process I wanted this piece to be a showcase for the family and be able to be displayed without any help from hangers, nails or easels. It also needed to capture the essence of this lil boy, speak to his brave nature while fighting his disease and also have his family around him.

This Memorial piece for Tristan is 3 layers deep that nestle into individual slots on base, creating a 3d landscape with depth of field. A truly stunning piece I put my heart into.

May Tristan's legacy live on in our hearts and minds forever. You can read more about his story below.
